TIMBAVATI PRIVATE GAME RESERVE, SOUTH AFRICA

Timbavati Game Reserve was established in 1956 by like-minded game farmers. With no fences separating the Reserve from the Kruger National Park, herds roam freely in this 68 000-hectare haven. Timbavati is known for its “white lions” which have white fur due to the presence of a recessive gene.
  • Famous "White Lions"
  • Private game-rich reserve alongside the Kruger Park
  • Big Five, Wild Dog and Cheetah can be found in abundance

The Timbavati Private Nature Reserve was founded when a group of conservationists who owned game farms on the western boundary of the Kruger Park came together to form the Timbavati Association. Numerous species of game abound in the Reserve, the most famous of which are the “white lions”.

The white lions of Timbavati were discovered in the early 1970s. Timbavati became well known for these remarkable lions, and as a result the commercial lodges in the reserve became popular tourist destinations. Although there are currently no white lions in the Reserve, the recessive gene causing this unusual phenomenon is still carried by the local prides, which are substantially paler than most other lions by comparison.

Witness traditional, tribal singing and dancing and enjoy open-air dining under the African sky, whilst experiencing the best big game experience South Africa has to offer.
