Orpen is one of the rest camps centrally situated in the Kruger National Park. It is also one of the principal entrances to the central region of the Park. A large variety of game may be sighted at the waterhole just outside the camp.

Orpen Camp is situated in the very dry open plains of the central Kruger Park. Animals to look out for in the Orpen area include lion, black-backed jackal, blue wildebeest, white-backed vulture and lesser black-winged plover.
The camp consists of 10 quaint thatched cottages and three luxurious guest cottages nestling in the shade of tall Acacia and Marual trees. The camp also offers a grocery store and public telephone.
A dam is 7 kilometres (4.5 miles) from the rest camp which makes for an exciting watering hole at which to spot a diversity of game.
Orpen Camp offers game-drives, game walks, and night drives.
Orpen Gate and Camp is named after
JH Orpen, a surveyor and member of the National Parks Board who helped sponsor boreholes for the park. His wife Eileen bought up seven farms immediately to the west of Rabelais gate during the 1930s and 1940s and donated them to the Park, thereby extending the total area by almost 24 500 hectares.
